Renovation Complete on Center Moriches Home

IGHL home renovated to better meet resident needs.

To live true to our mission and keep pace with the rapidly growing need to expand and maintain our residential program, it became apparent that the time had come to renovate IGHL’s Center Moriches IRA Home. In doing this, it required renovating the existing space to fit the needs of those who call it home while maintaining the historical essence and complying with Office of People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) standards.

This home, located in the Historic District of Center Moriches, was built in the mid-1700s as patronage for the Presbyterian Church. Unfortunately, many of the features in this home did not meet the IGHL standards and the medical accommodations to meet the needs of those who call it home. This renovation provides an accessible toilet on the first-floor living area and upgrades that conform with the needs of the disabled in the kitchen. Added was an additional bathroom, laundry room, bedroom on the second floor, and storage space built throughout the home. In addition, a new roof, windows, doors, and hardy plank siding were installed.

These renovations have not only brought the house up to modern standards that support the continued growth and aging needs of the nine (9) individuals who call it home, but supports the historical value of the Center Moriches community.
